Tom Cruise turns 50

One of Hollywood's biggest stars - Tom Cruise - will have his 50th birthday on July 03, but it may not be the most celebratory of events. The actor's wife, Katie Holmes, filed for divorce just days before.

Originally, Cruise was planning to mark the occasion in Iceland, where he's on location for his next film - that's what he told reporters at the Los Angeles premiere of "Rock of Ages."

"I'm going to be on a movie set. I'll be shooting "Oblivion" in Iceland on that day. We'll probably have a big party with the crew."

But whether he'll feel like celebrating remains to be seen. Holmes not only filed for divorce, but she also is requesting sole custody of their 6-year old daughter, Suri. The couple were married in 2006.

Throughout his career, Cruise has made headlines for his personal life as much as his professional one. Holmes is his third failed marriage. He wed Mimi Rogers in 1987 and Nicole Kidman in 1990.

On the career side, he has been nominated for an Oscar three times and has been a household name ever since appearing in 1983's "Risky Business." He went on to helm the "Mission: Impossible" franchise, with four films so far, and star in hugely successful box office draws like "Top Gun" and "Jerry Maguire."

His latest film, "Rock of Ages," is now in theaters, although it debuted to mixed reviews from critics.
