Description
Today... we're going to talk about some useful tips for people planning summer vacations in South Korea.
Our Ko Roon-hee is in the studio with us.
Roon-hee, let's start by explaining how people in South Korea are preparing to enjoy their days off this summer season.
Yes, Mark.
Data released by the South Korean government shows almost half the people recently surveyed plan to take a summer break away from all the stress.
According to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism's survey last month on around one-thousand people, more than 48-percent of the respondents said they will head somewhere this summer.
And almost 70-percent of them are considering whether to spend their holidays in South Korea.
A separate survey was done among Korean employees by 'hunet', an education service institute.
It showed employees spend an average 480 U.S. dollars on their summer vacation.
This poll also showed why some people in South Korea don't have vacation plans.
When asked why, more than half said the financial burden is just too much.
That's a shame that a lot of people are hesitating because of money issues.
If the budget is tight, what are some ways people can save money, but also let their hair down?
Sure. Well,... Korea is a great country to travel around by train.
I want to introduce you to a special rail pass that allows passengers to enjoy unlimited rides on special routes for a set period of time.
Korail Tourism Development introduced this train tour package this year.
You can either purchase a 3-day or 5-day pass.
For a 3-day pass for adults, it's around 50 U.S. dollars per person.
The five-day pass is roughly 70 dollars.
With this pass, there are a total of six sightseeing trains you can ride on...and they go to different parts of the country.
For specific routes, this is a map of the different lines.
They are different from regular trains...because you can go to special places like Dorasan Station, just south of the inter-Korean border.
Also, inside one train, there are some convenient services you can enjoy...such as a foot bath.

Ok, well not everyone will want to stay in South Korea. Do you have any tips for people flying abroad?
Maybe you could give us some ideas about how to fly more comfortably?
Sure.
There's one way you can do that... and only for a few extra bucks...and this mainly applies to people using low-cost carriers to fly internationally.
Many low cost carriers in Korea provide a so-called 'extra seat' service.
You can purchase an extra seat or two for a relatively cheap price...and it's really helpful when you want to lie down during the flight or are traveling with toddlers.
For domestic flights, it's around ten U.S. dollars...and for international flights, prices go up to around 50 dollars.
