An insect called the Asian citrus psyllid is spreading a devastating disease known as citrus greening.
The disease is the single biggest challenge for farmers.
Resources are being poured into research, but growing oranges is now an uncertain business.
The citrus industry employs more than 75,000 people in the state and is worth $9bn a year.
