Description

Instantly recognisable as Tim Burton's creations, these characters can now be viewed at an exhibition in Paris.

The exhibition which was first shown in New York now gives French fans of the filmmaker a chance to enter the weird and wacky world of one of Hollywood's most successful directors.

The exhibition features more than 700 works spanning Burton's 27-year film career.

The director explains what his creations really mean to him.

SOUNDBITE: Tim Burton, film director, saying (English):

"As you can tell I don't speak very well and it was something that for me was always my form of communication, it was a way for me to explore my subconscious ideas, without really speaking."

It was only when he became a director that Burton says he really learnt speaking.

Up until then it was his drawings that were his means of expression.

And one thing he enjoyed drawing the most, were monsters.

SOUNDBITE: Tim Burton, film director, saying (English):

"Most monsters have that symbol of misperception and actually not being what they seem and so for me that 's why they were always very strong emotional symbols for the way I felt."

The Tim Burton exhibition runs from March 7 to August 5.
