the days of sweet penny candy
oh innocence, how you blew in the breeze
as newly laundered clothes gently swayed
and Springtime's fragrance, freshly teased

Delicate, floral sundresses
adorned giddy young gals
Windmills spun as lively
as the boys and their exaggerated tales

Long dusty meandering roads
endless, so they seemed
left the imagination wander
to what far-off land they may lead

a distance, eager to roam
a horizon, yet to be seen
beckoning adventurous fate
only imagined in your dream

lost, became that innocence
and those carefree ways
days of sweet penny candy
where laundered clothes gently swayed.
