Tim Cook defends decision to remove Hong Kong mapping app
5 Views • Oct 11, 2019
Description
Amid criticism over the removal,... Cook wrote to Apple employees saying.... that over the past few days the company received "credible information" that the app was used maliciously,... to target individual officers and properties where no police are present.
His words, however,... have been disputed as the app doesn't display areas without police presence.
Civic groups say,... the map rather helps protestors avoid being targeted by Hong Kong police who use tear gas, water cannons and rubber bullets to break up crowds.
The developer of H-Kmap-dot-live has said,... Apple's decision was clearly a political one that suppresses freedom and human rights in Hong Kong.
