The day dragged on as noontime loomed
Well wishes serve to remind one
the dread of losing and facing doom
If preparation was overdone

but enter first the empty hall
and zone in with the atmosphere
pick up a racquet and a ball
serve it to the stratosphere

hungry thirst one hundred gallons
only drown in weight and water
worse, the want of gold medallion
the plaque that everyone was after

Now it had come down to two
but only one would reign supreme
Surely to one who dared to do
Who pushed his body to extremes

The cock has landed! just on the line
barely in, but surely so, yet
brains to register on overtime
the ball was in. Our fates were set.

ecstacy - a term too mild
Eleventh time the title's ours;
threw discipline away, went wild
Savoured the look on opposition so sour

It's your turn now, go get the gold
raise the bar, let talent unfold!
