Throwable ball camera captures everything in every direction
2 Views • May 13, 2015
Description
A startup firm based in Berlin has designed a throwable, ball-shaped camera that can capture a 360-degree panoramic image while in mid-air. The firm, Panono, is currently raising funds to manufacture the device on a large scale.
Also known as the Panono, the camera is 11 cm in diameter and weighs 300 g. It contains 36 cameras with a total resolution of 72 megapixels. The device can be thrown into the air, mounted on a stick or held in the hand.
When thrown into the air, an inbuilt accelerometer automatically gauges and calculates the launch acceleration and the time when the camera will be at its highest point. After it reaches its highest point, all 36 cameras simultaneously take a photo, which creates a 360-degree panoramic image.
Users can use an app to view the photo on their smartphones or tablets. The app turns the smartphone or tablet into a 360-degree viewfinder. Users have to move the device around to view the different parts of the panorama.
