Thousands protest in Cairo's Tahrir Square

A moment of reflection in Cairo's Tahrir Square.
In scenes reminiscent of the January 25 revolution, thousands flock to Tahrir once again on Friday for a day of prayers and protests.
Demonstrators gathered amid mounting fears the country's military rulers are trying to consolidate power with a new constitutional proposal that could allow them to defy an elected government.
Salafi parties who follow orthodox Islamic teachings were the first to galvanise support for the protest, with the Muslim Brotherhood and a number of liberal parties following.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SALAFI PROTESTER, HASSAN ABDEL NAEM, SAYING:
"Our reaction will depend on the military council's actions. The military council usually ignores our demands, but we usually meet them with surprises. If they continue to ignore us, we have responses."
Though there are divisions amongst the different groups, all are calling for an end to military rule, an elected caretaker government and the drafting of a new constitution.
Parliamentary elections on November 28 could be disrupted if the dispute is not resolved.
