Thousands form human chain in Tripoli
Description
ROUGH CUT - NO REPORTER NARRATION
Thousands of Libyans formed a human chain through the capital Tripoli on Wednesday, calling for peace and unity.
Those linking hands in the eight kilometre chain from Tripoli's Mitiga airport to Martyrs' Square in the centre of the city included policemen, doctors, nurses, and representatives from Libya's different tribal groups.
Tripoli resident, Miloufa al-Badri, said she took part to show that Libya was united after the fall of Muammar Gaddafi.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) TRIPOLI RESIDENT, MILOUFA AL BADRI:
"We are here to participate in the national day of peace and unity and this is a message for all Libyans all over the world that we are all united and we do all stand together."
Wednesday's show of unity comes just days after violent clashes near Tripoli between rival armed groups killed several people.
Although Gaddafi is dead, many of the rebel militias that fought to topple him are still armed and will not hand in their weapons until a national army is formed.
