Thousands attend pro-Assad rally

A huge demonstration in the Syrian city of Aleppo in support of President Bashar al-Assad.
These pictures - aired by Syrian television - show large crowds chanting and drumming, with a podium for speakers to address the rally.
(UPSOT) (English) UNIDENTIFIED SPEAKER AT RALLY:
"Let us live in peace and security, don't make our country a bone for your aggressive plans."
The pro-Assad demonstration is also to thank Russia and China for blocking European-led efforts to impose sanctions on the Syrian government.
The decision by Moscow and Beijing to use their veto power drew condemnation from the United States and its Western allies.
Assad has intensified his crackdown on protests demanding his resignation.
The United Nations said the military onslaught against protesters has killed 3,000 people, including at least 187 children.
