Be Still

we hear what's behind words,

between them,

as their Meaning sneaks silently

on wee mousy feet, on pale moth-wings,

finding a cranny in our hearts,

lighting on our mind's lamp.



the gloss of their seeming

flashes fast past synapses

glib or prosaic

burning or ashen

depending upon

the windows of the Soul

whether open blithely

or blinds drawn tightly.



the wriggle of words like worms in our garden

subterranean, subtle, surreptitious tunneling,

fertilizing, aerating the subconscious earth

wherein our Spirits are rooted.



rain's soothing massage of sound

supplanted then by sun rays sensuous

arouse us to raise our

faces.



we hear sounds' true meanings

in every place

we still ourselves

to truly listen.
