Description

by Anthony FalcoA new 3D printer could help colonize the moon. The European Space Agency (ESA) printed bricks out of simulated moon dust and solar energy. The moon dust was made of volcanic material and the sunlight was simulated with lamps found in cinema projectors. The bricks, which are as strong as the mineral gypsum, could eventually be used to build structures on the moon. At 1,800 °F, it took around five hours for the melted dust to become bricks. The ESA’s next step is to print the bricks in lunar conditions.
