How to build a musical matchbox
What You'll Need:
Matchbox
Pencil
Ruler
X-Acto knife
2 match size wood sticks, about 2" long
Elastic thread -- I used Gutermann Elastic 10m, or you can pull it out from an old sock.
Scissors
How to build it:
1. Draw 8 straight pencil lines across the matchbox about 3/16 inch apart.
2. With the X-Acto knife make straight cuts on each side of the lines, about 3/16" deep.
3. Glue the two wood sticks on top of the matchbox.
4. Cut 8 elastic threads about 3" each and attach them to the matchbox by inserting each end to the cuts in the matchbox.
5. Adjust the pitch (sound) of each thread by tightening or loosening it.
Strum the strings with a toothpick or a match and have fun!
