This is the heart-warming/heart-breaking story of a charter bus program in New York City that brings visitors to some of the 70 prisons in the state, located mostly in rural upstate New York. Every Friday night, about 800 people, mostly African American and Latino women and children, gather in Manhattan and board buses that will take them on the 8-10 hour journey, just to spend one afternoon with their incarcerated friend, family or lover. The coordinator of the bus program, Denise, shares her own hopes and fears as she ponders the release of her husband, who will soon be home after 17 years in prison.
