Description

The spotted eagleray is the largest of the stingrays, reaching a wingspan of 6 to 8 feet as adults and possessing one to five stinging barbs. These majestic and graceful creatures are found throughout the Caribbean, often near reefs, bays and lagoons. They make their diet of clams and other mollusks. During mating season, the spotted eagleray can be observed breaching the surface of the water in tremendous leaps to impress potential mates. They give live birth in shallow waters where rocks, reefs and even Mangrove tree roots can provide shelter and protection for their young from predators.
