The Man I love
Description
Scott Hamilton tenor sax, Kenny Davern clarinet with Howard Alden guitar swing away on the great standard "The Man I Love"
Both Scott and Kenny are wonderful original jazz creators and together with Howard an unbeatable team.
We should also mention both drummer and bassist just when one thinks about endurance. This version of the Man I love lasted a bit longer than 12 minutes.
It took the band about one minute to play a full chorus. One chorus has 4 parts of 16 bars. The rhythm guys had to hit each count of each bar in pretty high tempo. 4 counts in 4x16 is 4x64 hits or 246 hits/minute, therefore in the 12 minutes the bassist and drummer had to forcefully hit their instrument some 3000 times. That's just for this one tune!
This is from a performance at the 1990 Brecon Jazz Festival in Great Britain. Brecon in Wales with beautiful sights of the nearby Brecon Beacons.
