The Lone Star Tick

Leading prostate cancer expert, Dr. David Samadi, shares concerning news about a rare new tick and the permanent meat allergy it can cause. The Lone Star Tick, brown or tan in color, is characterized by a white spot on its back. It typically targets the head and neck area and can be found in Eastern and Southern U.S. states. Once bitten by this tick, a patient can suffer a permanent allergy to meat, including beef, pork, and lamb. The allergic reaction will occur 3-6 hours after eating these types of meat and can cause choking, hives, and anaphylactic shock. Dr. Samadi cautions the same protection you would normally use to protect yourself against ticks in the woods or outdoors, and be mindful of a tick with the unique white spot on its back.
