A Hollywood director (William Powell) casts a former Tsarist general (Emil Jannings) out of revenge for imprisoning him and stealing his comrade (Evelyn Brent) during the Bolshevik Revolution. Directed by Josef von Sternberg; co-written by Herman Mankiewicz. Best Actor Oscar for Jannings.
