The gluteal fold

The gluteal fold is an important anatomical area that needs to be treated differently than the other areas of the buttock. The gluteal fold is the most lower part of the buttocks. In a beautiful inferior gluteal fold there is a nice blend between the projection in the center and the top while the buttock slants down to finish at the fold. With aging and time the gluteal fold gets saggy and some patients actually develop what is called a banana roll. Where there is a nice roundness and then at then bottom part there is a little bit of fullness that looks aesthetically not pleasant. The inferior gluteal fold is an anatomical area that is not supposed to be violated. If liposuction is going to be performed this has to be done either above it or below on the posterior thigh. If the gluteal fold is liposuctioned then you might destroy these anatomical areas and then you are going to develop an even saggier buttock. There are many things that can be done to improve the gluteal fold particularly in the ischial area which is on the deepest part of the gluteal fold. I like to inject fat in this area to plump the buttock as it blends to the inferior part of the gluteal fold. In addition when projection is performed the increase in projection tends to pull some of the skin of the lower inferior fold that allows it to become rounder as skin is stretched increasing the volume of the buttock. I also like to perform liposuction in certain areas to diminish the banana roll deformity while injecting fat in other areas that are deficient. Paying attention to the gluteal fold is essential to have a good result, one thing that you need realize is that the gluteal fold some patient would like to have a cuff. Realistically this is not technically possible unless you have some sort of minor sagginess and when the fat is injected it creates these cuff which is very technique dependent. The gluteal fold is an important part of your buttock that needs to be analyzed during your consultation. If attention is paid to these anatomical area your buttock is going to look prettier and nicer after surgery.
