Description
Free Syrian Army rebels could be seen from Turkish side of the border.
Iraqi Kurdish fighters are fighting side by side with the main Kurdish group in the besieged town -- hoping their support for fellow Kurds, backed by U.S.-led air strikes, will keep the ultra-hardline group from seizing the Syrian border town.
Kobani is seen as a key test of the effectiveness of American air strikes, and of whether combined Kurdish forces can fend off Islamic State, an al Qaeda offshoot consisting of Arab and foreign fighters.
