The Enemy Below is a 1957 action/war film directed by Dick Powell starring Robert Mitchum and Curt Jürgens.

Plot: South Atlantic, 1943, during World War II an American destroyer, commanded by Captain Murrell, intercepts a German U-boat, commanded by Commander von Stolberg.
The two will compete in a long chase, mutually becoming prey and hunter, until, thanks to the exploitation of two respective errors, the two ships will sink but Captain Murrell, in deference to the mutual respect born during the battle, will throw the rope to the German commander saving his life.
