Thailand: 2026 general elections begin

Millions of citizens in Thailand are heading to the polls to elect the 500 members of the House of Representatives and decide in a referendum on the future of the 2017 Constitution. More than 52 million voters are participating in this historic election, which opened at 8:00 a.m. local time. The contest is centered on three major parties: the reformist People’s Party, the conservative Bhumjaithai, and the populist Pheu Thai. For the first time, voters face a double ballot—renewing parliament while also determining whether to approve drafting a new constitution aimed at reducing military influence in government.
