teleSUR Reports -Typhoon Recovery in Philippines

Today's program takes us to the town of Tacloban in Philippines, which was ravaged by the monster typhoon Yolanda on November 8, 2013, the worst in the country's history. Tacloban, municipal capital of the province of Leyte, was 80% destroyed. A year later and in the absence of government funding, the town continues its uphill battle for housing reconstruction, particularly for the 14,500 families still without a permanent place to live. Current efforts are aimed at moving these families from tents into transitional housing, but progress has been slow. New, permanent housing is being built 10 km. away. Given the lack of alternatives and little money, poorer residents are returning to zones classified as dangerous due to their proximity to the coast and living in makeshift housing. teleSUR
