Description

"Energy Poverty - Energy Available to Only the Few". The term "energy poverty" originally referred to lack of access to electricity, but today, thanks in part to the economic crisis, it has been broadened to include an inability to pay fuel costs or maintain an indoor temperature of 21 degrees C (69.8 degrees F) during the winter months. Worldwide, 1.4 billion people do not have access to electricity, but even in the developed countries of Europe, energy poverty is a mass and growing phenomenon thanks to soaring fuel prices coupled with rising unemployment. In Europe, 50 million people are without electricity, 4 million in Spain alone. This documentary examines the case of Spain to explain the phenomenon. teleSUR
