Description
US President Donald Trump unexpectedly found himself going off-script at the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York City on Tuesday, as the teleprompter malfunctioned just moments before his opening remarks.
"I don't mind making this speech without a teleprompter, because the teleprompter is not working. I feel very happy to be up here with you, nevertheless. And that way you speak more from the heart. I can only say that whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble," he joked.
Trump continued to deliver a wide-ranging, hour-long speech, addressing topics including Gaza, climate change, the global economy and migration.
The high-level General Debate for the 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80) kicked off in New York City on Tuesday, September 23.
Leaders from 193 member states gather for the annual meeting, titled 'Better Together: 80 years and more for peace, development and human rights'.
UNGA 80 is presided over by former German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock. A number of members are expected to recognise the State of Palestine, while African nations are calling for fairer representation on the UN Security Council.
