Description
The electric drivetrain with its low center of gravity opens up architectural freedom. This paved the way for a comprehensive evolution of the active suspension system, which is used in the Ferrari Purosangue as well as in the latest Ferrari supercar, the F80.
The low center of gravity reduces the active forces required for roll and pitch control, enabling an optimized balance between handling and comfort requirements. The result is a significant improvement over the initial use of the suspension solution, combining maximum handling precision with outstanding vertical comfort.
The most significant update concerns the ball screw connected to the electric motor, the heart of the system. The screw has a 20 percent longer pitch and can better absorb and control vertical shocks due to the lower inertial forces transmitted to the chassis. The electric motor generates the same torque as in previous applications. It actively manages the forces exchanged between the chassis, tires, and road without forcing a compromise between variable suspension stiffness and body control.
