Tarun Gogoi orders high level probe

An international bribery scandal linking US firm Louis Berger to a water development project in Assam has given opposition parties a stick to beat chief minister Tarun Gogoi, apparently widening the rift within the ruling Congress party. The US Justice Department said last week Louis Berger, a New Jersey-based consultancy, will pay $17.1 million as a criminal penalty to resolve charges that it paid bribes to win government contracts in India, Indonesia, Vietnam and Kuwait during 1998-2010.
