Syrian refugees amass at border
Description
A casualty of violence in Syria.
This woman with shrapnel injuries is carried toward sanctuary.
Dozens more have made the journey, bringing their children and a few belongings to this unofficial border crossing with Turkey.
Residents say their cities and villages are now shelled every evening in President Bashar al-Assad's campaign against the uprising.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT, SAYING:
"Shelling with missiles, planes and tanks, these are conditions they have caused. They have made us homeless and orphaned the children and widowed the women and killed the elderly, and they did all they can do. It's the worst of conditions."
As they wait to enter Turkey, some curse Assad.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) UNIDENTIFIED RESIDENT, SAYING:
"May God destroy him and destroy all those who stand by him. May He humiliate and make him ill and may he not find anyone who will give him asylum."
According to the U.N.'s refugee agency, more than 120,000 Syrians have fled the violence to neighbouring countries.
