Syrian activists camp on border

Camping out in the freezing cold.
These expatriate Syrian activists have been barred from entering their homeland and are camped out on the Turkish border.
The convoy of about 150 people was trying to enter Syria to draw attention to the plight of civilians caught up in months of unrest - but Syrian border guards refused to let them in.
(SOUNDBITE) (English) UNIDENTIFIED SYRIAN ACTIVIST SAYING:
"It was absolutely freezing. It was one of the coldest night we have had in this weather. It was also one of the most enjoyable nights we have had, we spoke all night long. We shared all that is happening. We tried to feel what our people inside Syria are feeling, we tried to sense what it is like to live here, as they have for last ten months and we have just spent one day here."
The United Nations estimates more than 5,000 people have been killed during a crackdown by the Syrian authorities on an uprising against the rule of President Bashar al-Assad.
Syria says it is fighting foreign-backed "terrorists" and that 2,000 soldiers and police have been killed.
