Syria continues killing

Syrian security forces entered the northwestern city of Saraqib early Thursday the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. The group reported heavy gunfire in the city and said tanks and troops were deployed in the city. Residents in Hama reported indiscriminate shelling by the army and snipers shooting civilians as corpses piled up in the streets. Activists said 27 people were killed. The reports followed claims that Syrian security forces had withdrawn from the town prior to the visit of Turkey's Ambassador to the area, but returned late Wednesday. President Bashar Assad admitted some mistake had been made when dealing with protesters during a meeting with delegates from India, Brazil and South Africa in Damascus. United Nations deputy political affairs chief Oscar Fernandez-Taranco said over 2,000 civilians have been killed in the country since protests erupted in March, 87 on August 8 alone.
