Symphonic Raps - Marsalis
Description
Symphonic Raps Marsalis Wynton 2000
Symphonic Raps - Here goes Wynton Marsalis again. You listen to this superb piece of arrangement and then compare it (I just did) with the original recording of the Carroll Dickerson's Savoyagers from 1928. This was a band mainly consisting out of the Louis Armstrong Savoy Ballroom Five with Earl Hines and with the addition of drums (Zutty Singleton) and brass bass (Pete Briggs)
I never heard any other band attempting this great piece of traditional jazz but
at my old age I start to get more and more admiration for Wynton and his jazz band.
They stick basically to the arrangement but the pianist does his creative way of approaching the Hines piano solo. At the end Wynton does some incredible trumpet work.
Louis would have been be very proud to see and hear another son of New Orleans with that talent.
Today Wynton celebrates his 45th birthday and would have been only 9 or 10 when Louis passed on in 1970
(If you ever want to hear that wonderful piece done in 1928, send me a message with your email address and I'll email you the mp3 file)
