sylvia spencer - A Fancy Bonnet

Sally wore an Easter Bonnet but it had no frills upon it.
It was of pure white cotton with a bow under her chin, and
her thoughts of Easter were locked within.
When all her friends went off to the Fare, Sally stayed at home
and was lost in prayer. Her thoughts were never bothered by
fancy things such as chocolate eggs with frills and ribbons fit
for kings. Her friends had bonnet's of silk and lace and some had
flowers that drooped on to their face.
Sally wore her bonnet for God, because of Christ and Easter Day,
she had a vision and the memory would not go away.
Her eyes could see the cross upon his back and the way he dragged
it up that lonely track. With pain and sorrow she held out her hand
but she could do nothing, he had been condemmed by the land.
Her Fancy bonnet that she once wore she took from her head
and in ribbons she tore and a pure white bonnet she wore
for ever more.
