Thousands of lightning strikes hit Sydney from the evening of January 8 through January 9.

Nearly 5,000 lightning strikes were recorded in the early hours of January 9, 9News</a> reported. The lightning damaged railway and caused train disruptions, according to local media</a>. The storm also uprooted trees and knocked out power for thousands of people.
