Unkind words, only half in jest,
The other half intentional, well-chosen,
Poke a hole in confidence.

Purposeful disbelief at their effect
has you asking me,
'What is wrong? '

Nothing at all.

The lack of your touch
At times strong and gentle at once
Leaves skin and soul in doubt.

I put your arms around me
Touch my lips to yours
Sorrowful at the reaction.

Nothing at all.

Bags packed and possessions loaded,
All here and all secure
Memories filling the gaps.

One look over my shoulder
You stare silent and defeated.
What do I leave behind?

Nothing at all.
