This clip represents a recording made in 1936 by the Hot Club de France called ‘Swing Guitars” played by Django Reinhardt with Stephan Grapelli.
What nicer music one can think of than to have that in the background of some pictures we made when we were visiting my cousin Jacqueline (Pien) and her husband Frans on our holiday in Normandy in 2007. Although they normally live in Amsterdam, some 20 years ago they had bought a little farmhouse there in Le Vretot.. Of course we live in Canada and the odd time you go to visit the home country you don’t have much of a chance to see your familie’s holiday places. This time it worked out and they have made their cottage into a very comfortable getaway. We had a great time together. They prepared us a wonderful meal with good french wines and we concluded it with some “Calvados”, a famous locally made applebrandy.
The next day they took us to a farmersmarket in Barneville-Carteret, a pittoresque village near Normandy’s westcoast. We walked the beaches, amazed by the differences in tide level and ended our visit with a great seafood lunch at a wonderful seaside restaurent. Even in October the climate there is very mild and warm and we were able to sit outside.
