Surrey county lunatic asylum for paupers

Within the sprawling grounds of Springfield university hospital, Tooting, many buildings lay disused bearing silent witness to the days when it was called Surrey county lunatic asylum for paupers. Opened in 1841.
It is odd to find a fully functioning hospital with such a powerful decaying testament to its past still standing in it's midst. To wander the now deserted buildings at the heart of this complex is an eerie and disturbing experience indeed.
