Description

Dodging and ducking, through the long-faced trenches,
I felt as if I was slowly becoming blind.
Distracted by the ecstasy of my own mind,
I stumbled and roamed astray.
I was making a meal of plan ‘48AK’.

Hearing the friendly sound of gunfire,
I felt a few nips from top to bottom,
And I dreamingly drifted off into my past…
I saw a bright light, calling out to me,
But I didn’t want to go yet, I was only twenty-three.

A cold shiver gunned down through my back,
Startled, I jolted upright, and awoke,
And sat up in some makeshift bed…
Confused, I frantically glanced around the dim-lit room,
I pondered then realised, I was back in my reality, my doom.

The familiar sound of gunfire confirmed my terror,
I tried to get out of bed,
But instead, I fell… and thumped my head,
In similar fashion to a hapless egg,
For, in that instant I noticed, that now I only had one leg.

Now, stationed on the floor,
I felt a surge of anguish and anger consume me,
Beginning to feel sorry for myself,
I contemplated what my grim future had in store,
Then I called out to someone by the door.

I was told that my services were no longer required,
My stomach churned as I deliberated my plight,
Oh how I wished that this was a bad dream.
I felt incredibly pathetic and weak,
Visions of my life ahead were incredibly bleak.
