Sudan turns down U.S. request to send forces to secure embassy.

Scenes of violence in Sudan after outrage erupts after Friday prayers over a film that ridicules the prophet Mohammed.
Demonstrators storm the German embassy.
They set a guard house on fire.
More protesters later throw stones at riot police outside the U.S. embassy, prompting a request from Washington to send in a platoon of Marines to bolster security.
It was a request Sudan turned down.
(SOUNDBITE) (Arabic) SUDAN FOREIGN MINISTRY SPOKESMAN, AL-OBEID AHMED MURAWAH, SAYING:
"It is true that some protesters went beyond the peaceful stage in the demonstrations and the German embassy was attacked and there was an attempt to storm the U.S. embassy but the situation was brought under control. Sudanese authorities heightened the security for all foreign missions in Khartoum, especially Western missions, and the Sudanese government will be responsible for providing protection to all the diplomatic missions, with God's will."
The U.S. ordered non-essential staff to leave its embassy in Sudan on Saturday.
