Description
It all started with the Leone Estate Van in September 1972. Until then, four-wheel drive was limited to off-road cars, but Subaru differentiated itself from its competitors by betting on including the 4WD Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive variant in produced passenger cars. mass. This Leone did not have all-wheel drive permanently, as it was a "front-wheel drive" with the option of connecting the four-wheel drive via a button next to the gear lever. Another of the great contributions of this model, which today is present in many vehicles, was the hill start control. These innovations soon made the Leone Estate Van the world's best-selling all-wheel drive vehicle.
A few years later, based on the Leone 4WD, the Subaru Brat would arrive, the model with which the Japanese brand opened the doors of an American market that was even more receptive to all-wheel drive. It was a pick-up, also with connectable all-wheel drive, which had former President Ronald Reagan among its illustrious owners.
