Study: Smoking Will Kill 8 Million A Year By 2030
Description
by Andrew CaringiA new study by the World Health Organization projects that smoking will kill eight million people per year by 2030 and that 80 percent of these deaths will occur in low and middle-income countries. In 2016, smoking killed approximately six million and cost more than $1 trillion in health care expenses and lost productivity worldwide. These costs vastly outweigh global revenues from tobacco taxes, which in 2013 to 2014 totaled only $269 billion. Smoking continues to be the biggest preventable cause of death globally and this trend will likely continue according to the study.
