Scientists at the University of Newcastle have developed a portable device that is designed to help recovering stroke victims, who often undergo intense therapy to repair their damaged brain and spinal connections. This small, portable device could accelerate the recovery process. Small electric shocks—paired with audible clicks—help strengthen a patient’s brain and spinal connection. While 60 percent of test subjects saw their neural pathways strengthened after a few hours of use, the pain-free treatment still requires clinical approval. Researchers are confident their new device will be available to patients soon.
