Steven Smallwood - Physical Earth

I turn a bend and crush a dandelion
growing in a crack,
but I keep walking on
while sweat trickles down my back.

The sun radiates upon the road,
I stoop to steal water from a toad,
Then continue, through a chasm,
And catch a glimpse of earth in spasm.

A wind had shaken an overhang
To crumble all my health and fame
To which I owe it all to Earth
The home that gathers and ripens mirth.
