Steps2Health walking group November roundup

LOCAL walking group Steps2Health had a November of mixed blessings, what with bus strikes, heavy rain and flooding, but on the other hand some interesting destinations, delicious cakes, and high quality music thanks to Tenby Blues Festival.
On the first day of the month, the planned walks were abandoned as the local buses were on strike. Instead walks were offered in Tenby and Kilgetty for any members that could get there. The weather was pleasant and the walkers enjoyed their morning out.
The following week was memorable for how wet it was and how much flooding was caused. Luckily it stayed dry, if dull and windy, on Saturday, November 8, for a first ever club walk in East Williamston. This was a great success and we had a lovely walk. The post-walk coffee morning in the village hall was wonderful. There was an epic selection of scrumptious cakes to go with the tea and coffee.
There was a choice of town walks on the third Saturday. Again the weather was kind to the walkers while they were walking, but the incessant rain soon came back and resumed its deluge. With the Tenby Blues Festival in full flow, there was plenty of high quality free entertainment to be found all around the town at the end of the walk. Another memorable outing enjoyed by everyone taking part.
On November 22, very heavy overnight rain with localised flooding continued until mid morning. Amazingly, 25 intrepid walkers turned up at County Hall car park in Haverfordwest. Splitting into the usual groups, they set off down the river towards Fortune’s Frolic, then on towards Uzmaston. When the Steadies reached the end of the tarmac path they turned around, while the Speedies continued on through the mud and puddles to Uzmaston church. Turning left they walked up the lane until they reached the footpath back to the river. Despite the early bad weather, they all really enjoyed their outing.
For the last walk of November on the 29th, the weather started fine, so 36 cheery walkers turned out at Battery Gardens. The recent heavy rain had made the planned routes impassable, so they did variations on the scenic walk around the edges of the town. There was a lot going on in the town, with a Christmas fair and charity Santa Run in the morning. Everything initially went fine with the walks, until we were caught by a nasty shower. The pessimists were fine because they had full waterproofs on, but a few of the optimists ended up quite soggy. Then when the Speedies got as far as the North Walk, they met hundreds of very wet Santa Runners. They abandoned their walks and went to find some nice warm, dry cafés instead.
