When the lovers return to Earth
And discover that in their absence
Nothing of worth,
Can be recovered from their loss.
And they feel in love’s abstinence
Only despair for:
Another country at war,
Another political crisis,
Or another broken home.

They walk alone, they walk alone
And can often be found,
Screaming into the firmament
Their beloved’s name,
As though the stars were to blame.
