Staring at the sun – in high-definition
Description
NASA has released high-definition images of the sun taken by its space-based telescope, the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). It takes a high-resolution image of the sun every 12 seconds in ten wavelengths of invisible ultraviolet light. Each wavelength helps highlight a different temperature of solar material and each is assigned a colour.
The images are then stitched together by a team of specialists, who spend around ten hours creating one minute of footage.
