STALIN : THE SOVIET SUPERPOWER

Stalin's state had to withstand the hardest lest of its worth: not heeding the disgracefull Hitler - Stalin Pact, the Germans invade the Soviet Union.

The Red Army succeeds in driving back the enemy, but pays an immense price with huge numbers of victims. In Leningrad alone, the number of people who die is higher than the total number of casualties for the American, British and French armies during the entire World War II.

When the „Great Three" meet in Potsdam in the summer of 1945 to arrange post-war Europe, Stalin is at the peak of his international reputation. With the victory over Hitler's German, the Soviet Union becomes a superpower.

In all of East and Middle Europe, Stalin overthrows the democratic governments. With Stalin's death in 1953, his subjects' admiration turns to worship, even prisoners in the punishment camps cry for the „great" leader and „wise father" of mankind.
