SSA Chief Resigns After Refusing Musk’s DOGE Request for Sensitive Data

Michelle King resigned as Social Security Administration chief after refusing Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency request for access to sensitive agency records, sources said. The White House confirmed King’s departure and announced Frank Bisignano as President Donald Trump’s nominee for the role. Anti-fraud official Leland Dudek is the acting commissioner. DOGE accessed the Treasury Department’s payment system earlier this month, prompting lawsuits alleging violations of federal privacy laws. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump directed Musk to investigate SSA fraud despite a report showing a 0.84% error rate from 2015 to 2022.
