Squirt.wmv

Saturday night, Feb. 20, Squirt's heart gave out on her and we had to take her to the vet to put her down and were with her when she crossed that Rainbow Bridge at the age of 16. She was the last of our original pack - Penny (1995 – 2009), Sophie (2002 – 2016), Dakota (2007 – 2019), and Squirt (2004 – 2021).
Squirt was always an energetic, playful, and inquisitive American Eskimo/Border Collie mix that people occasionally mistook for a Schipperke. Not even the cataracts that left her nearly blind could hide the bright sparkle in her eyes, and not even arthritis and heart murmurs that left her panting, diminished her playful spirit.
I took Squirt for her last walk Saturday afternoon and it seemed as though she knew it was her last. She took her time: half-an-hour to walk around the block. She sniffed every dog’s footprint in the snow, and stood watching a neighbor’s wind decorations spin.
