Space shuttle Endeavour crawls through Los Angeles
Description
The space shuttle Endeavour sets off on a slow journey through Los Angeles, on its way to retirement at the California Science Center.
It's a two day crawl across 12 miles for the shuttle, which will become a public attraction.
But squeezing it along narrow roads is no easy feat.
To clear the way, traffic and streets lights have temporarily removed, power lines shut down and some roads re-enforced to protect against the weight.
Four hundred trees have also been felled - although the science centre has pledged to plant a thousand more to make up for the loss.
The entire project is set to cost ten million dollars.
SOUNDBITE: JOE GRUTZIK, SAYING (English):
"I think it's awesome that it's here, it's great, maybe it'll excite younger kids to look to the stars and try to do something exciting with their lives."
SOUNDBITE: MIRO KRONER OF TUSCON, ARIZONA, SAYING (English):
"It's a glorious American feature that we have here, just to build something so big and something that marks the U.S. as kind of like a progressive force in face, I think it's worth seeing."
The Endeavour flew 25 missions and was taken out of service as NASA's shuttle programme came to an end.
